Overview

Read with Me started its activities in Sirjan from November 2015 with the financial support of the Meraj Andisheh Sirjan Cultural Institute and the cooperation of the Department of Education in Sirjan. The first set of workshops were held in 4-5 November 2015 for 25 tutors from 20 different Elementary Schools and two High Schools. Trainees in these workshops learned about choosing appropriate books for children, Story Elements, Reading Aloud Techniques, Book related Dramatic Arts, Making Masks and Documentation.

In the academic year of 2016/17, the Meraj Andisheh Cultural Institute and the Institute for Research on the History of Children’s Literature made an agreement to cover more than 1870 children from first grade to third grade of Elementary School with this program. Also in the first phase of the program, 600 books and over 1870 activity sheets were sent to the children covered by this program.

In February 2016, the RWM experts traveled to this region to evaluate the progress of the program. In the final days of their visit, they held a conference about reading aloud and activities before and after reading with 71 tutors and an art workshop was held for 58 tutors.

The authorities of the Department of Education in Sirjan are inclined to ease the process of implementing the program in schools in this city.
