Reading books on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities

An experience from a Read with Me library in GhassemAbad village, Jiroft

Mahboubeh Ekhlasi, the tireless librarian of Sepehr Library, winner of Jabbar Baghtchban Award 2020, read-aloud the book “Susan Laughs” on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. She then shared lovely pictures of children’s activities with the Read with Me team.

You can read her experience below:

Location: GhassemAbad Village, Jiroft, Kerman Province
Library name: Sepehr Library
Promoter: Mahboubeh Ekhlasi
Book: Susan Laughs
Date: 3 December 2020

On the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, I read-aloud the book “Susan Laughs” and uploaded my read-aloud video in the online library channel. Then, children and I discussed concepts such as accepting differences, respect and the abilities of disabled people.

I asked children to do artistic activities around the topics we had discussed. They depicted different types of disabilities in their work and shared them with their friends.
