In July 2015, the first group of mothers started to read books with their babies and toddlers in the Supportive Education Center of MahmoudAbad based on the “Reading with Babies and Toddlers program”. Next workshops for the second and the third groups of mothers were held in January 2016 and September 2016. Since the start of the program in this center, 62 mothers, both pregnant with children and parenting children from 0 to 3 years old who live in brick-making kilns in MahmoudAbad, in three groups have benefited the program. In the first Read with Me conference, one of the mothers from this center shared her experiences of reading for her child with the other participants.

In February 2015, an exhibition was held in the Supportive Education Center of MahmoudAbad and activities, done by mothers and children covered by this center, were represented. Some handmade books made by mothers participating in “Reading with Babies and Toddlers” workshops were also presented in this exhibition.

Here, you can read some comments made by mothers after participating in the Reading with Babies and Toddlers program:

My patience towards my baby has been enhanced after attending this workshop. Now I talk to my child pleasurably, I read him poems and I have realized how calm he has become and he gets restless quite less often.

Currently, I read books for my baby correctly and with more passion and I give her more love. My husband is amazed by the changes in my behavior towards our child and he is happy that I attend these workshops.

My baby smiles when I read her lullaby and poems. Every day I experience fine moments with my child by reading and talking to her.

I am illiterate, and I didn’t care up to now. But ever since I attended these workshops, I like to read to my child, therefore, I am planning to go to adults’ school.

I have primary school education but I cannot read books so well, this class has made me to ask my older child and have him teach me how to read.
