Experts visit from Read with Me centers in Zabol
On 13 January ۲۰۱۶, Sepideh Armin, Read with Me responsible in Sistan and Balouchestan province and Mahtab Moghaddam, one of RWM experts and trainers, visited this project’s implementation process in covered schools in Zabol. In this travel, RWM experts were accompanied by Mrs. Behjati (Happiness and hope society responsible) and Mrs. Dahmardeh (Quality supervisor of preschools in Zahedan Education Office). Project’s implementation in Hejrat girl school and Solouki preschool was visited and the experts worked on weaknesses, deficiencies and problems in Reading Aloud, Learning Sounds, Learning Alphabet and art related activities in these two schools and gave their suggestions to solve the problems and improve teachers and tutors’ method.
In Hejrat girl school in spite of problems such as being a double shift school, a room has been dedicated to Read with Me sessions. In this room, teachers have collected the tools needed for a Book Reading Session. They have made scenes, hand puppets and masks for performing plays upon books. Read with Me books are kept in the same room.
In Solouki preschool as a result of lack of space and the common space of this preschool with Solouki Boy High School, the tutors have merged two classes and hold Reading Aloud Sessions for 55 children at the same time.
Teachers and tutors in these two schools have a positive opinion to this project and its results. They believe in this short period the classes’ atmosphere has became happier and children’s vocabulary knowledge has expanded. Now they are more curious and more interested in book reading. They say that children have made a good connection with these books: “What & What & What, An Infant”, “I’m A Tiger Too”, “Elmer the Patchwork Elephant”, “Rosie’s Walk”, “The Red Bird”, “Daft Bat”, “Little Blue” and “Vera’s Baby Sister”.
This year, Read with Me project was implemented by the start of academic year for 300 children in schools and preschools by the financial support of Omran Azarestan Construction Company in Zabol and book bags and handbooks for teachers and activity sheets for children have been prepared and sent to the region and in December 2015 first RWM workshops were hold for teachers and tutors in this region.
The Institute for Research on the History of Children’s Literature is thankful to the authorities of Omran Azarestan Construction Company who financially support this project in Zabol. Also Yavari Cultural Community and Shahpari NGO are appreciated who ran the primary negotiations with Education Office and made the basic preparations for holding the workshops.
