Read with Me project decided to implement creative education through basic literacy program in the island of Qeshm after a lot of trainers, librarians and volunteers in this island warmly received the project after the inauguration of Navid Vah’y (literary meaning the promise of revelation) in Dargahan in June 2019. In this program, 59 educational institutions and 140 teachers were covered by Read with Me project.
In October 2019, Read with Me experts made a trip to the region in order to hold workshops on “creative education through basic literacy” and “art and theater in relation to basic literacy” for four groups of participants and teach subjects such as “learning phonological awareness skills”, “learning phonemic awareness skills”, “learning math through children’s literature” (Lolopi+0 and Lolopi+1), “picture dictionary of riddles” and art in relation to basic literacy. In this trip, 140 packages containing about 1100 volumes of books were sent to trainers of nursery school and pre-school on the island of Qeshm.
In December 2019, in another travel to Qeshm, various workshops were held, namely, reading aloud, introduction to elements of stories, introduction to children’s literature and art in relation to reading aloud. Also, Read with Me experts visited nursery schools and pre-schools in the region to assess the success of the program.
In the educational year 2000/01 due to restrictions imposed by Covid-19 pandemic, all workshops were held online. More than 110 trainers from 60 educational institutions and more than 10 volunteers participated in the program in this year. Also, 34 energetic and creative trainers in Qeshm were selected as ambassadors (native trainers) of Read with Me and participated in training courses throughout the year. These ambassadors have a very significant role in the implementation and promotion of the project in the region.
In December 2020, packages needed by the ambassadors in order to hold workshops and train Read with Me programs, such as handbooks for holding workshops and books used in these workshops, were sent to them.
In January 2021, packages of supplementary reading aloud books were sent for institutes and volunteers covered by the project. These packages included 14 volumes of quality books related to subjects of environment and values of life.
Implementing Reading with Family program in Qeshm
In the educational year 2000/01, with the help of a number of Read with Me ambassadors, Read with Family program was implemented in the island of Qeshm. This program started with more than 100 families and 250 children to promote reading among them. Ambassadors hold meetings with the families every month to teach them how to continue the program and also to give them packages of books for the month. Read with Me experts are constantly in touch with the ambassadors and are informed about the implementation of the program and the activities of the families.
