Mother, Child and Adolescent Library of Salakh
The Mother, Child and Adolescent library of Salakh was established with 1000 books under the supervision of Farzaneh Okhovat from Children’s Book Council with the financial support of a group of proponents of children’s book domain in Salakh village in the spring of 2012. Two nearby primary schools as well as middle school and high school students benefit from the library’s books and services.
The library joined the “Read with Me” program in 2015. In addition to holding “Read with Me” workshops, a number of quality books were sent to the library by IRHCL.
In November 2016, Zohreh Ghaeni the director of “Read with Me” program, visited this center. She noticed the library’s great performance at Reading Aloud sessions and Read with Me workshops. Therefore, IRHCL with the supports of Ms. Sedigheh Mahdavi, decided to equip and decorate the space of the library. In this regard, nearly 1200 volumes of books in 600 titles were sent to the library. An executive team visited the library on 3-4 February 2017 and implemented the new design in collaboration with local students.
Library Renovation
At the beginning of the implementation of the new library project, due to the inadequate roof and paint conditions of the walls of the center, the library authorities decided to renovate, paint and transform library spaces with the cooperation and support of the village authorities. The “Read with Me” executive team designed and prepared the library and necessary equipment during this period. In library design, issues such as meeting the standards of child-centered libraries, the design of an economic library, the environmental approach and the use of recycled materials and attracting people in the region for library work were considered as well.
The library has separate rooms for reading sessions for preschool children, elementary school children and adolescents. Each room is decorated with books related to the same age group. The main hall of the library was allocated to the main bookshelves and children’s desk. A calendar and a wall plan were designed for the main hall, which can be used for educational purposes.
Currently, more than 500 students from Salakh village use this library. Several programs, such as Reading Aloud sessions, Learning Phonological and Phonemic Awareness Skills and workshops on Living Values are held in this library for different age groups. In addition, the officials of this library promote reading and the “Read with Me” program by holding workshops for the teachers and cultural authorities of Qeshm island.
