The Read with Me House and the Mafi Family’s Creative Education Center
The Read with Me House and the Mafi Family’s Creative Education Center was established and allocated to the Institute for Research on the History of Children’s Literature by Sogand and Sogol Mafi in memory of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mafi (founders of Mehran School and Children’s Book Council) in order to realize their parents’ dreams and goals including cultural growth in the children of their country.
Read with Me, a program which promotes book reading among children in the deprived areas of Iran, has not only won the most prestigious reading promotion award, IBBY-Asahi, during the six years of its activity, but by the supports of different institutes, it has also been able to set new standards in Iran regarding the methods of book reading promotion. These methods are mixtures of teaching basic literacy using children’s literature, Reading Aloud, dramatic arts and establishing child-centered libraries.
By spreading this program to the most remote areas of Iran, Read with Me needed a space for devising precise schedules, training tutors and preparing book packages. The Read with Me House and The Mafi Family’s Creative Education Center were therefore established on 25 August 2017 to reach for the goals that had been set by Masoume (Farangis) Sohrab and Yahya Mafi in the past decades.
