Mehr-o-Mah Center for the Empowerment of Women and Children was established in Farahzad in 2012. Farahzad is one of the marginal and deprived areas of Tehran’s 2nd district. In 2016, with the support of benefactors, the “Read with Me” program aimed at enhancing basic education and promoting reading. Accordingly, the program covered 76 preschool to 4th grade children at this center. Among them, a large number of Afghan children also benefited from the services of the center.
So far, the child literature and reading workshop have been held in December 2016. A workshop on Basic Literacy Creative Education has also been implemented for preschool and 1st grade educators in January 2017. 313 volumes of books along with book-related handbooks and activity sheets have been provided on two occasions.
In July 2018, after renovations, one of the classes of this center was specifically dedicated to a child-centered library. This library holds weekly Reading Aloud sessions for preschoolers, as well as groups from 1st grade through 12th grade.
