The opportunity for the Afghan girls to become literate through literature
Literacy Education for Afghan girls and boys
Here is the Mother and Child House of Naser-Khosrow. In the marginal part of Isfahan which is called Malekshahr. The inhabitants are mostly from Afghanistan. Most of the families are workers and most of the fathers are addicted to drugs. This house is run by the Children Literature society of Isfahan. This year in cooperation with The Institute for Research on the History of Children’s Literature in Iran (IRHCLI) they started Read with Me programme. Now the mothers and their children, mostly Afghan girls come to this center to develop their literacy skills through literature.
These Afghan girls are mostly out of school because the families cannot afford their school costs and if a family can afford the costs they prefer to send the boys to the school. This center provides literacy education and access to quality books for almost 100 children.
